Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is one of the best-known Mexican painters. In spite of a childhood illness, crippling traffic accident, and many hospital stays throughout her life, Kahlo was a very successful painter and lived a very active social life. She used her artwork as an outlet for her physical and emotional suffering. She painted over fifty self-portraits.
