In Puerto Rico the musical tradition of the “Parrandas” excites the holiday season. Starting after Thanksgiving groups of people, playing musical instruments, go door to door singing outside the homes of family and friends. With each visit the group is invited inside for refreshments. Then, the entire group goes on to another home. The caravan continues to grow in size. At the last home, which has been prearranged, everyone is invited in to eat an elaborate meal. The “Parrandas” continue eight days past Three Kings Day, January 6.
